Slutty Vegan, PLANTA help earn Atlanta vegan city honor from PETA

PETA has named Atlanta one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the U.S., thanks to its plant-based eats, festivals, and standout local spots.

ATLANTA — From loaded plant-based burgers to dairy-free desserts, Atlanta’s food scene is making national headlines. The city just earned a spot on PETA’s Most Vegan-Friendly Cities in the U.S. list, thanks to a growing number of restaurants offering plant-powered meals.

The standout restaurant, according to PETA, was Slutty Vegan, an Atlanta-based chain known for its bold flavors and playful names. Its signature burger, The One Night Stand, comes with vegan bacon, cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato and “Slut Sauce” on a vegan Hawaiian bun.

Slutty Vegan founder Pinky Cole also recently launched a new sandwich shop concept, Voagies, out of her original Slutty Vegan storefront in West View.

PETA said Atlanta is “a paradise for vegan eating,” with popular spots like Slutty Vegan, Plant Based Pizzeria, PLANTA and Bar Vegan ATL leading the charge. The city’s restaurants offer everything from burgers and fries to sweet treats and brunch, all without using animal products.

  • Cafe Kulture for its flavor-packed vegan paninis
  • La Semilla for its Seitan Beef Crunch Wrap
  • PLANTA for dairy-free Key Lime Cheesecake with coconut whip
  • Bar Vegan ATL for comfort foods like Cheezesteak Eggrollz and Boozie Brownies

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said Atlanta earned its spot for both flavor and accessibility.

“From juicy burgers to delicious dairy-free desserts, Atlanta is a paradise for vegan eating with an abundance of animal-friendly restaurants,” she said.

The city’s plant-based presence goes beyond restaurants. It also hosts several food festivals throughout the year, including:

  • ATL Vegan Festival
  • Georgia Vegfest
  • Juneteenth Vegan Fest
  • Plantapalooza
  • Vegan Brewfest
  • The Veggie Taste Festival

PETA, which stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is a national animal rights group known for promoting vegan living and the protection of animals. The organization created the list to celebrate U.S. cities where it’s easy to find animal-free foods. Other cities on PETA’s list include Charlotte, New Orleans, Chicago, Denver and New York City.

PETA said that choosing vegan meals helps protect animals and may lower the risk of certain health issues like heart disease and cancer. They offer free vegan starter kits and meal ideas at peta.org.
