Dutch meat alternatives producer Schouten Europe has expanded its range with the launch of three new “Taste of the World” burgers.
The vegetable-rich burgers are inspired by international cuisines, and are available in Mexican, Italian, and Thai varieties. Each has a distinct flavor profile that uses natural ingredients rather than imitating meat.
“Consumers are increasingly looking for plant-based products that stand on their own,” said Mark van Noorloos, Marketing Manager at Schouten Europe. “By moving away from direct comparisons with meat, we’re able to deliver unique flavors and textures that appeal to a variety of culinary preferences.”
The burgers will be available to both domestic and international customers from this week.
“Distinctive and appealing”
Earlier this year, Schouten launched Power Bites and Sea Bites, two plant-based snacking products that also do not attempt to directly replicate meat or fish. By introducing more natural plant-based products, the company aims to reinvigorate consumer interest in meat alternatives following the market slowdown in recent years.
In 2024, Schouten expanded its range with new mycoprotein-based meat alternatives, which it said were less processed and more sustainable than products made from soy. The same year, the company developed a new fiber technology that can enhance the texture and appeal of plant-based meat products while avoiding the need for energy-intensive texturization processes.
“People are genuinely motivated to eat less meat, but they still want products they enjoy,” said van Noorloos. “By focusing on popular flavors with this concept, we expect consumers will appreciate these products. All the burgers are rich in vegetables. Their crispy coating and soft interior are distinctive and appealing.”
