The Health and Wellness Center at Christus is gearing up to host the DEKA Strong fitness challenge on June 21. The event, part of a series of three DEKA competitions, will test participants’ physical strength and endurance across ten challenging zones, without any running involved.
Mike Brewster, a trainer at the center, explained that the DEKA Strong is ideal for those new to fitness competitions. “It’s ten challenging zones that measure your physical strength. Also your endurance too. But there’s no running. So a lot of people, this is a good one to get started on,” he said.
Participants can compete individually or with a partner, allowing for shared efforts in completing the zones. Chris Cullather, a previous participant, shared his experience, saying, “You feel a great accomplishment by going through all ten functional fitness zones.”
The event will begin at 8 a.m. and run until 1 p.m., with staggered start times every ten minutes. Registration is open until the morning of the event, with fees set at $49 for individuals and $70 per team.
Brewster emphasized the supportive atmosphere of the event, noting, “Those people start cheering on, helping others out and stuff. And then at the end, a lot of the people that just get through competing, they stick around and cheer for them too.”
For those interested in testing their fitness levels and joining a community of fitness enthusiasts, the DEKA Strong challenge offers a unique opportunity.
