RANSON — In a move toward promoting a healthier environment, the City of Ranson will host its first Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday at the Ranson Civic Center.
The fair, a partnership between West Virginia University (WVU) Medicine and the city, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The health fair promotes community well-being through the provision of resources, as well as through raising awareness of health issues.
The event will feature 43 local health and wellness vendors to provide the most up-to-date information to attendees to promote healthy living. A family-friendly event, the fair welcomes vendors who will offer insights into their services, provide some giveaways, offer health screenings and showcase educational demonstrations.
Featured activities and events will include blood pressure and glucose screenings, Narcan training, CPR demonstrations and healthy cooking demonstrations. Also on tap are walking trail activities, food giveaways, a kid’s zone with a moon bounce and raffle prizes that will include a walking board.
“Our goal is to offer resources for our residents, as we all focus on promoting a healthier lifestyle,” said Debbie McClure, director of community programs for the city.
From preventative care and fitness to mental health support and nutrition, residents and other visitors will find a plethora of options to help improve their healthy outlook on life. Early detection and preventive care are key in helping individuals maintain good health, and the vendors who have scheduled to take part in the fair will provide information that may not otherwise be easily accessible to many.
The early detection found through screenings, such as those offered at the fair, can be the first step in managing one’s care, as well as improving one’s health all around.
“One’s health is the most important thing there is, and if we can provide assistance to those who attend the fair, we have definitely provided a service to the community,” McClure said. “The health fair can also serve as a connecting point for residents in our area who need to find service providers and other needed resources.”
Admission to the Health & Wellness Fair is free, and all are encouraged to attend an event offering the first step toward a healthier lifestyle.
