CINCINNATI — UC Health and National Fitness Campaign have unveiled a new initiative aiming to help communities open access for developing fitness.
Through the initiative, 10 local communities will build outdoor Fitness Courts, which are free, accessible spaces for residents to join to move and train. UC Health is committed to making the Greater Cincinnati area the healthiest city in the country.
“At UC Health, our responsibility to provide care for all extends beyond our hospital and clinics to the community. By combining opportunities for our region to experience the effects of both movement and nature, we’re empowering individuals to take control of their overall well-being,” stated Cory Shaw, president and CEO of UC Health. “We’re thrilled to join this movement and work with NFC and local cities, schools and organizations in achieving better outcomes for all.”
The partnership will invest in local schools, municipalities and organizations to help bring the outdoor fitness spaces to residents. National Fitness Campaign has its own mission to build a Fitness Court within a 10-minute bike ride for every person across the country.
Fitness Courts are created for users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout through seven exercise stations. The courts are designed for adults, young adults and teenagers 14-years-old or older. Workouts are adaptable for all levels of fitness, but for those looking for more guidance, a free Fitness Court App can be downloaded.
“National Fitness Campaign is excited to welcome UC Health Cincinnati as they join the growing network of leading health care sponsors across the country, prioritizing equitable outdoor exercise across the Cincinnati region,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “This program will deliver tremendous resources to contribute to the important mission of improving health outcomes as the network of Fitness Courts grows across the region. We look forward to working with UC Health (Cincinnati) to make this campaign a great success.”
Municipalities, schools and other organizations who own accessible public space can apply for grant funding to build the Fitness Courts, courtesy of the two organization’s campaign. Recipients will get a wellness toolkit, education and design resources to help plan, fund and launch their outdoor Fitness Court and community wellness campaign.
