Schouten Europe, a family-run business in the Netherlands, will introduce a new plant-based sausage this month.
According to the manufacturer, the sausage’s novel animal fat substitute provides “unique juiciness.” The new banger will be sold through the culinary sector, retail and out-of-home channels.
The Dutch food manufacturer announced the major upgrade to its plant-based sausage, which features a new fat replacer and a fully plant-based casing designed to replicate the texture and bite of traditional meat products.
The company, known for its extensive range of meat alternatives, says the latest development marks a significant improvement over previous versions.
“The meat alternatives category is still relatively young, and we constantly explore ways to create better and healthier products,” said Ruben Molenaar, Schouten’s R&D manager. “With this new sausage, we’ve achieved a major step forward.”
One of the standout features is the plant-based casing, which replaces the animal-derived casing typically used in conventional sausages. “This delivers an authentic sausage experience,” Molenaar added.
The new product will be showcased at Anuga, the international food and beverage trade fair taking place in Cologne from October 4 to 8. Schouten will exhibit in the Alternatives Hall 01.2 at stand E021, where visitors can sample the 50-gram version. Larger formats of 80 and 90 grams will be available on request.
Founded in 1990, Schouten was the first company in the Netherlands to produce meat substitutes using plant-based proteins. Today, it supplies private-label products to more than 50 countries and continues to develop tailored solutions for customers worldwide.
