Swees Plant Based Foods, the company behind Thailand’s first vegan cheese, has introduced its second product line, CleanBean. This new brand, designed to offer plant-based meat alternatives, enters the market with a focus on simplicity, health, and flavor.
“I wanted something that would satisfy me and my meat-eating friends”
The company, which began operations in 2019, has grown from its initial venture into vegan cheese made from organic soybeans to now developing meat substitutes. CleanBean’s debut includes products such as Beev Steaklets and Chick*n Bites, which are designed to replicate the taste and texture of traditional meat without the use of processed ingredients.
Nick Frauenfelder, CEO of Swees Plant Based Foods, said the company’s development of CleanBean was driven by a clear consumer need. “Tofu is good, but it’s not meat. I wanted something that would satisfy me and my meat-eating friends – a plant-based option that truly tastes and performs like meat, without compromising on health or ingredients,” Frauenfelder explained.
The technology behind the texture
The CleanBean products use high-moisture extrusion (HME) technology, a method that helps achieve a meat-like texture with minimal ingredients. The result is a product made from just soy protein, water, and natural flavors, without any unnecessary additives. Both Beev Steaklets and Chickn Bites are free of cholesterol and provide a high level of protein and fiber. The Beev Steaklets contain 20.8 grams of protein and 7.6 grams of fiber per 100 grams, while the Chickn Bites contain 22.8 grams of protein and 6.8 grams of fiber per 100 grams.
In addition to meeting nutritional needs, CleanBean is designed to integrate easily into various culinary traditions. The products can be marinated, fried, grilled, or incorporated into dishes like curries, providing versatility for home cooks and chefs alike.
CleanBean products will be available in retail stores across the country and via the company’s online shop.
