LEWISTON, Maine — We spent an hour with Sami Muhammad, a Lewiston native who opened his new shop, Garden of Via, in May on Lisbon Street.
After working multiple dead-end jobs, Muhammad said he wanted a career that uplifted himself. Now, he grows and sells exotic and rare house plants—from tiny air plants to what he called “the holy grail of house plants”: philodendron spiritus-sancti.
Coming to the shop every day is now therapy, and people have made the walk (or even a multi-state drive) to bring home a piece of greenery they won’t likely find at a big box store.
