David Lloyd Health and Fitness Club to open in St Neots

Planners at Huntingdonshire District Council considered the proposals put forward for the Wintringham estate in St Neots, on Nuffield Road.

The proposals include three tennis air-dome enclosures, three padel tennis courts, a multi-use court and a Battle Box outdoor fitness facility.

A five-lane indoor swimming pool, a four-lane outdoor swimming pool and a children’s swimming pool are all on the cards, as well as a two-court sports hall, a 120-station gym, four studio spaces and a children’s soft play area.

An internal spa, with a pool, sauna and steam room, as well as an externa spa garden have also been included in the plans, as well as leisure areas with a business hub, and a kitchen/café/bar too.

The club, which will trade under the David Lloyd Health and Fitness Club brand, was met with support.

26 letters of support were sent to the council commenting on the physical and mental health benefits for people in St Neots.

Many felt that it would be a positive addition to Wintringham and that it would create plenty of jobs for those living on the estate.

There were two letters of objection, raising concerns on traffic congestion and the overflow car parking, as well as noise and congestion.

However, planning officers at the council felt that the David Lloyd Health and Fitness Club would assist in meeting an “identified need” for additional sports and leisure facilities in St Neots.

They felt that the benefits of the proposal would outweigh any potential harm.

Officers identified “design shortcomings” but on the planning balance, it is not enough to refuse the application.

It was approved by councillors on June 10, and you can read more about the application here.
