Confused about which Greggs vegan options are available? Here’s a complete guide to what you can enjoy next time you hit the high street.
Wander down any UK high street and you’ll no doubt come across a Greggs bakery. It’s the perfect place to stop for a quick snack, sandwich or baked treat.
Founded in 1939 as a bakery in Tyneside, the chain has since expanded to over 2,000 stores and has become a bit of a British institution.
Until early 2019, vegan options at Greggs were pretty much non-existent. But as veganism became more mainstream and more people started to reduce their meat intake, Greggs decided to get in on the action with the launch of the Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll. The company is now part of a huge number of places offering vegan options at chain restaurants.

Greggs Vegan Christmas options
Each Christmas, Greggs releases a new savoury pastry for vegans to enjoy. Here’s a look at some of the previous options available on the festive menu for vegans:
Greggs Vegan Sausage Roll
Greggs launched a vegan version of its most popular item just in time for Veganuary 2019 – a vegan sausage roll.
This seemingly insignificant event caused quite a stir. As everyone scrambled to try this exciting new product, the vegan sausage roll sold out at numerous outlets across the country.
Piers Morgan even tweeted about it, saying “Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns.” Which, of course, simply helped make the new vegan sausage roll even more popular.
In fact, the success of the launch saw strong company growth, and 25,000 employees were given a bonus of £300 each.
Following this launch, numerous other fast food outlets began to up their game and release vegan versions of their best-selling items, including McDonalds, Burger King and KFC.
This Greggs menu staple is made with Quorn Mycoprotein, around 96 layers of light puff pastry and mirrors the meat-version in terms of texture and taste.
The Vegan Sausage Roll costs £1.20, or you can buy 4 for the price of 3 for £3.15.
Vegan Lattice (Steak-Free)

Greggs has revived one of its most popular vegan creations, but with a new look and name. The much-loved Vegan Steak Bake, which sparked outrage when it was axed in May 2024, returned to menus nationwide in August 2025 as the Vegan Lattice (Steak-Free).
First launched in 2020 after the runaway success of the Vegan Sausage Roll, the bake quickly gained a loyal following. Its sudden disappearance left fans fuming, with many taking to social media to demand its return. Now, Greggs has delivered, and reassured customers that while the name and lattice-style pastry are new, the flavour remains the same.
The Vegan Lattice features Quorn mycoprotein pieces mixed with diced onion and rich vegan gravy, all wrapped in crisp, golden puff pastry.
The new-look Vegan Lattice ir priced from £2.10 and is available in stores across the UK.
