SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A large fire broke out at a plant-based meat factory.
Crews with the Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to the scene on 1700 South at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Monday.
A caller said smoke and flames were coming from a roof.

Crews began attacking the flames from the inside before evacuating the building in case the roof collapsed.
The roof did ultimately collapse, and crews fought the fire from a defensive position.
“As soon as you start seeing that, you get everybody off the building, make sure there’s nobody inside the building,” Battalion Chief Ryan Mellor said. “We had already pulled everybody out because we weren’t sure we were gonna be able to get it from underneath, and so we were prepared for this one to happen. In fact, we were expecting it.”
No injuries were reported.
