Wall’s Pastry has expanded its vegan offering with the launch of two new savoury slices: the Vegan Peppered Steak Slice and Vegan Chicken & Mushroom Slice.
The new additions build on the phenomenal success of Wall’s Vegan Sausage Roll (now the no.1 vegan sausage roll on the market), which has seen impressive growth of 23.4%.
Riding that wave of popularity, Wall’s is now bringing even more variety to the chilled savoury pastry aisle with its first vegan slices, which have been designed to offer the same comforting flavours of classic meat-based pastries – but without the meat.
For anyone still mourning the loss of Greggs’ Vegan Steak Bake, Wall’s Peppered Steak Slice could be just the thing. It’s filled with juicy plant-based steak pieces and onions in a rich peppery sauce, all wrapped in golden flaky pastry.
If creamy comfort food is more your style, the Vegan Chicken & Mushroom Slice offers a plant-based twist on the traditional favourite, featuring chicken-style pieces and mushrooms in a smooth vegan sauce.
Both slices can be enjoyed hot or cold, making them perfect for lunch breaks, picnics, or quick snacks on the go.
‘Brilliant momentum’
The launch is part of Wall’s mission to bring more choice to the growing number of people cutting down on meat. Whether you’re vegan, veggie or just trying to eat more plant-based, the new slices aim to satisfy without compromise on flavour or texture.
Jason Manley, brand director at The Compleat Food Group, explained: “We’ve seen brilliant momentum behind our vegan sausage roll, and it’s clear there’s a real appetite for high-quality plant-based versions of familiar favourites. With these slices, we spotted the perfect opportunity to leverage our brand strength within plant-based Chilled Savoury Pastry and developed a range that is truly tasty and representative of its meat counterparts.”
Vegan sausage rolls
Wall’s first entered the plant-based scene back in 2019, inspired by the buzz around Greggs’ vegan sausage roll with the launch of its Vegan Jumbo Roll, BBQ Jackfruit Jumbo Roll, Vegan Snack Rolls, and BBQ Jackfruit Rolls.
At the time, Wall’s said it wanted to tap into the growing demand for plant-based options. Speaking to The Grocer, the brand explained that the range was designed to appeal to the 91% of Brits who identify as flexitarian, as well as the 3.5 million people in the UK following a fully vegan diet.
Wall’s Vegan Peppered Steak Slice and Vegan Chicken & Mushroom Slice (180g, RRP £2.00) are available nationwide in Tesco from May 2025.
